Artist Tom Sachs’s whimsical sculpture/video installation The Godfather Viewing Station, which acknowledges our ongoing fascination with Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece,will be on view next to the entrance to the Redstone Theater. The granddaddy of contemporary crime films remains one of Hollywood’s greatest works of modern storytelling. With this first part of the multilayered Corleone saga, a violent allegory of American industry, Coppola instantly became a cinematic titan, Brando found a colossal role he would always be remembered for, and Pacino became a bona fide movie star. It is gripping from the first frame to last, with exquisite visual texture courtesy of cinematographer Gordon Willis. The screening will be introduced by Sachs and Robert M. Rubin, curator of the exhibition Walkers: Hollywood Afterlives in Art and Artifact.
