Mask, Chewbacca, 1977
Description
To form the foundation of the Chewbacca costume head, Stuart Freeborn created a foam latex mask over a resin mold of Peter Mayhew’s face. Chewbacca’s fur—a blend of yak and human hair—was glued onto the latex face mask and woven into a knit wool lining that covered Mayhew’s head and neck.
