July 10–August 18, 2023

To apply, please complete this form. After applying, you will receive additional information in order to complete registration.

This summer, Museum of the Moving Image will hold its popular media day camp onsite starting July 10. Onsite camp sessions run Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Children ages 9–14 can participate. Camps vary week to week and can be taken independently or in any combination. All levels of experience are welcome. Your child will receive an abundance of personalized attention in a safe environment: the average child-to-teacher ratio is 7:1. Parents should know that face masks are recommended but not required. Please review our safety guidelines.

Summer Media Camp is the perfect way for your children to explore something new, express their creativity, and experiment with technology. Working under the guidance of specially trained artists and educators, your child will collaborate with other children to create original movies, animated films, and video games, which will then be featured as part of a special showcase at the Museum. All levels of experience are welcome. Each child will leave camp with the confidence and knowledge that they made something awesome!

Next Generation Animators

Digital Game Designers

July 17–21

Campers will immerse themselves in digital game design and explore what makes their favorite video games fun. They’ll remix classic video games by creating new levels, rules, and characters, while getting exclusive access to the Museum’s collection of video games during days when the galleries are closed to the public.

Indie Game Makers

July 24–28

Embark on an exciting journey uncovering the fantastic and collaborative world of game design! Using a variety of game-making tools, campers will unleash their creativity to fashion fun original games, drawing inspiration from the diverse and imaginative world of independent games, including virtual, role-playing, and tabletop board games. Through hands-on activities, campers will have the opportunity to meet and learn from experienced game developers, gaining valuable insights into the art of crafting engaging gameplay experiences.

Virtual Reality Adventures

July 24–28

Come create immersive new worlds using the latest moving image technologies. Campers will learn to use virtual reality and augmented reality tools, innovate using the power of performing arts, and craft their own unique extended reality experiences. For ages 11–14 only; no previous VR experience is needed.

Future Filmmakers

July 31–August 4

Learn how movies are made while exploring the Museum’s online collection in a week packed with hands-on video-making experiences. Kids will collaborate in small production teams to create an original silent film that they will write, direct, produce, and star in.

Claymation Creators

August 7–11

Aspiring animators will explore the delightful process of claymation (clay animation) as they learn the techniques necessary to make their own films. Campers will design and create their own sets, props, and characters to animate their own original claymation film.

Puppet TV

August 14–18

Led by a professional puppeteer who has been featured on popular television shows, campers will design their own character, experimenting with a variety of styles and materials, which they then use to produce an original sketch.
