The Living Room Candidate: Political Advertising in the 2020 Presidential Campaign

10月 15, 2020

MoMI hosts a roundtable discussion with media scholars exploring political campaign advertising from the past and present to help the audience better understand the dynamics of the media landscape and political strategies at work in the 2020 election. This event is presented in conjunction with the launch of the 2020 edition of 客厅候选人, the Museum’s online archive of presidential campaign commercials.

Moderated by Kathryn Cramer Brownell, Associate Professor of History at Purdue University and Consulting Curator of the 2020 Living Room Candidate. Featuring: Nadia E. Brown, University Faculty Scholar and Associate Professor of Political Science and African American Studies at Purdue University; Leo Chavez, Professor at Stanford University and author of several books about immigration narratives in the media; Nicole Hemmer, associate research scholar with the Obama Presidency Oral History project, and the author of Messengers of the Right: Conservative Media and the Transformation of American Politics; and David Schwartz, Manager of Theatrical Programming, Netflix, and former Chief Curator, MoMI, who is the founding curator of MoMI’s online exhibition The Living Room Candidate.

This program and the 2020 edition of The Living Room Candidate have been made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the human endeavor.
